Please Excuse Our Mess

Daylight Atheism was down for about two hours earlier today due to a coding error I made, so my apologies for that. Nothing was lost or damaged, and the site should now be restored to full functionality.

The good news is that the reason I've been revising code is to handle the steadily increased traffic this site has been experiencing. Daylight Atheism is now seeing over 2,000 visitors per day on average, and recorded its 300,000th hit earlier this month. Both total and unique hit counts have been increasing every month since I launched this site back in February. Although this is certainly a very good thing, it does mean that my database has to be restructured to deal with the traffic, which is what I'm currently working on. I'll do my best to minimize any further disruptions.

Clearly, this steady growth shows that there is a great interest in the atheist viewpoint, a viewpoint that most traditional media sources have fallen far short of representing fairly or effectively. So long as there is a demand, I'll be happy to supply that viewpoint. In just a few short days, Daylight Atheism will officially be entering its second year of operation, and rest assured, I have a very long list of topics remaining to discuss. Onward!

So, that's what happened. Man, I hate when I put semicolons in the wrong place, or forget to put them where they need to be.

Now you only need to fix the comment preview section.

It was a malformed regular expression, actually. But either way, it's ridiculous that a minor typo could render the whole site inaccessible. I like PHP, but it's far too touchy about things like that.

Thanks for pointing out the comment preview problem! That was a casualty of some new anti-spam measures I instituted; I didn't realize it was broken. It should be fixed now.

Let the intelligent, carefully-crafted and often consonant writing continue! And see about writing that book, if you have a minute or two next year.

Perhaps this is not the best way to bring this to your attention, but what do you think of the "Blashpemy Challenge"?

Good news and congrats Adam.

Congratulations on the excellent statistics; it is well deserved. This is one of the few blogs that I visit on a regular basis whose only draw is superb writing. Keep it up!

Adam, I'm afraid I've had some trouble with this website in China. Do you know if you're being blocked there (I'm in the UK on holiday at the moment).

A nice Xmas present to be able to read here again before I go back!

I'm afraid I don't know anything about that, no. However, if my site is being blocked in China, it should be relatively simple to circumvent the filters. If the problem persists, you could try using anonymizing proxy software like Tor or Psiphon.

Thanks. Happy New Year!
