Akinola's public line is that the population of Nigeria supports harsh measures against gays, and if he doesn't support this bill then Christianity will lose all credibility in that country. His support for the bill is far too enthusiastic for me to buy that line for a second,

There is no justification to hate gays. This hatred of gays comes from this primitive book these people call a "holy book". This is one of the many reasons I frown at religion. The latest excuse I've heard on some of the faith boards I visit is that everyone has to "find" God for themselves and how dare anyone criticize anyones' way to practice Christianity.
