I think that's one of the <i>least</i> allegorical parts of this story. When I started out to write my essay "<a href="http://www.ebonmusings.org/atheism/clearair.html" rel="nofollow">Into the Clear Air</a>", one of the things that most amazed me was the sheer <i>number</i> of testimonies I could find from people who wrote at length about the relief, happiness, and joy they found when they finally realized that they were atheists. I ended up posting a whole separate essay made up of nothing but excerpts from the stories I didn't have space to quote originally. It really does happen that way, and a lot more often than most religious people think.
