Ebon: Writers of my own acquaintance tend to report that agents are a de facto necessity, if you want enough copies of your book out there that folks might actually read them. You also have the advantage of fitting into a new and established market niche (an advantage which my acquaintances uniformly do not possess), which an agent would be specifically trained to exploit.

You might have a point about the "previous material" issue, though. Presumably publishers would treat this with the same protocol that they use for, say, anthologies of short stories...but I really have no idea.

Of course it can't hurt to ask?

Congratulations on the anniversary and sincere wishes for many more.

and I think there's a vibrancy and yet a sense of intimacy and community that one doesn't often find together on popular weblogs.

Absolutely, and let me add this as a compliment from the theist camp. If you are trying to reach folks as stated above, you are going about it the right way. The material on this site, and the Ebonmuse parent site, is consistently well written, compelling, and rational. Nevertheless, though you challenge them, people are allowed to post without being ridiculed, called names, or generally belittled. It's an uncommon combination of strong argumentation and respect. It speaks volumes about character.

Great job and congratulations...

DamienSansBlog: No, I don't have an agent yet. I'm still weighing whether I should seek one out, or just go the self-publication route. The fact that significant material in my book was drawn from essays on Ebon Musings and Daylight Atheism may be an issue with publishers, although there is also substantial new material there. I haven't made a decision about this yet.

Happy anniversary. Are you sure the blog has only been around for two years? Somehow it feels like longer. :)

As far as "options for publication" go, do you have an agent yet? (Forgive me if you've already addressed the topic, someplace I've forgotten.)

I can't believe it's been only two years. Seems like it should take longer to accumulate so much quality work. Thanks and congratulations, Adam.

Count me among those interested in the live chat idea. It would be worth a shot to see if it works.

Congrats, Adam! This place was one of the reasons I blog myself. Many more years to you, and I look forward to the book. I want a signed copy.
