Daylight Atheism Los Angeles Meetup

For all DA readers in the Los Angeles area (if any):

Three weeks from now, on the weekend of September 5, I'm going to be in California to attend a friend's wedding. The weekend is booked solid, but my flight back to New York leaves from Los Angeles on Tuesday the 8th, and I'll have that Monday free.

So, do I have any readers in or near L.A. who'll be around on Labor Day and are interested in meeting up? It would probably be later in the day, around dinnertime. If you'll be available and are interested, e-mail me (ebonmusings@gmail.com) or leave a comment below. If you know any good restaurants you'd recommend, or other interesting things to do, please feel free to mention that as well.

Adam, if you're ever in Arkansas give me a holler.

There's a snowball's chance I might be in the area, but I can't promise anything.

Adam: That would be great! Whereabouts in the L.A. area? I'm in the Pasadena area, which is not far from L.A. I'd love to meet up. Depending on where you are, I can recommend a spot or two. Email me if you'd like.

HI,
I'm in San Diego, but will drive up to hang out if you get something going. There are lots of atheists here in SD, I'm sure a few will come with me.
I always wondered where you lived :)

I'm in L.A.

There's plenty of food to recommend; what kind of grub did you have in mind?

I also recommend a late night treat at Yogurtland.

And, the L.A. County Fair is happenin' that weekend.

I live in LA, Ebon. I'd be up for a meetup.

What kind of gathering place you have in mind?

I'm in San Diego as well, might just be able to make it up there. It's a 2 hour drive. If your a sushi fan, LA is the place to be!

I'm in LA too (live in the Valley, work at the Beach). It'd be great to meet!

If you want to do something really L.A.-y you can dine at The Grove (Fairfax and 3rd street). It may not be as packed on a weeknight. Who knows, some celebrities might be around, too.

I'd be happy to receive an e-mail of your final plans for that evening though I can't guarantee I'd make it.

I may be able to make it; I'll let you know as the situation clarifies.

Greta and I had a wonderful meal here the last time we were in L.A. and we decided it would be a perfect meeting place for atheists:

We asked the waiter why the restaurant was named "Church and State," and he said it was just because the owners liked the phrase.

Well I live in the San Gabriel Valley, and if you're going to be around LA I'd certainly think it worthwhile just to say thanks in person for all the hard work you've put into this blog, and into Ebon Musings. This has been one of my favorite sites online since I first came across it. Have a safe trip and enjoy the wedding regardless, Ebon.

Ebon,

I'd love to join in. I live in San Diego, and I notice two others commenting above are thinking of making the trip from here. If you could give me the email addresses of those folks, or give mine to them, or maybe give them my phone number (which you already have), I'd be happy to try to organize a carpool. My car is probably not the best choice (19 years old, small, not air-conditioned), but if any of the others are interested in this, I would help with phone calls, etc, and of course we'd share gasoline expenses in some way. I think the driver should get some kind of special consideration, like a free lunch.

Sounds like it would be fun.

Jack

I've been on vacation and missed this when it was posted, but I'm in L.A. and would love to attend. Just let me know where/when and I'll be there.

Siamang, it would be good to see you again too!
Karen

damn! I'm going to be out of town that weekend, but have fun & let me know the next time you're in town!

Hi Karen!

I'm going to be unavailable, too. For some reason, I didn't register that that was Labor Day. I keep thinking Labor Day is a week earlier.

But, have fun and let us know how it goes.

Hi Siamang! Looking forward to catching up with you. :-)

Polly, sorry to hear you can't make it. You and I have similar backgrounds and I would love to meet you some day.
