Welcome, 2014! It’s a new year, so let’s ring it in with some new music from Chvrches, a synthpop trio from Scotland with a name that’s hard to type.
I came across this band late last year and downloaded their debut album, The Bones of What You Believe, which I’ve had on heavy rotation ever since. I can listen to it all the way through – no duds or filler tracks – which is pretty rare, even for bands I like. (It doesn’t hurt that their lead singer, Lauren Mayberry, has written a bracing essay on the sexism that female musicians face.)
