If you like maple syrup, craft beer, rugged mountains and forests, picturesque small towns, real farm-to-table eating, or cultural liberalism, Vermont is the place. Here are a few pictures from my trip to the state two weeks ago:

VermontKentPondSmall

Hiking around Kent Pond, Killington, VT. The sun kept hiding behind clouds and coming out again, creating a dark, gloomy forest alternating with brilliant golden dapples of light.

VermontThunderingFallsSmall

Thundering Brook Falls, Killington, VT. A pleasant short walk. Panoramic view.

VermontMtMansfieldSmall

Green mountains, we’ve got ’em: Panoramic view from the ridgeline of Mt. Mansfield, the tallest mountain in Vermont, looking west toward Burlington and Lake Champlain.

VermontMountainClimberSmall

My son is a natural mountain climber. He made the trip to the top of Mt. Mansfield (in a backpack carrier) and had a blast the whole time.

VermontColchesterCausewaySmall

The Colchester Causeway, an old railway line converted into a walking and biking trail on Lake Champlain.

VermontChurchStMarketplaceSmall

Giant public mural at the Church Street Marketplace, Burlington, VT. It’s hard to see him from this perspective, but Bernie is in the mural about halfway down.
