Hey all,
Today I’m announcing a change to my post schedule, for reasons I’ll explain. I’m cutting back on blogging for a while, from three posts a week to two, to devote my time to another project.
But never fear, Daylight Atheism isn’t going to be idle. At the same time I reluctantly reached this decision, I got an e-mail from Dale McGowan, our redoubtable editor here at Patheos, with an intriguing offer from someone who was interested in coming aboard as a regular guest author. (The universe is looking out for me!)
I’m proud to announce that my new co-contributor is James A. Haught, a venerable figure in the freethought movement. His writing was previously featured on Daylight Atheism way back in 2011, and I’m happy to renew that partnership.
For those who don’t know, James A. Haught is the longtime editor and now editor emeritus of West Virginia’s largest newspaper, The Charleston Gazette-Mail, where he’s won two dozen national newswriting awards. He’s also a prolific and important voice in the nontheist movement, having won 21 national newswriting awards. He is author of 11 books, 120 magazine essays, and 50 columns syndicated nationally. Thirty of his columns were distributed by national syndicates. He’s a senior editor of Free Inquiry magazine and was writer-in-residence for the United Coalition of Reason.
As he describes himself, “I’m an old newspaper editor who has spent a half-century questioning supernatural religion. I think gods, devils, heavens, hells, miracles, messiahs, angels, demons, prophecies and other church dogmas have no actual reality, but merely stem from the human imagination. Magical faith claims are fantasies.” And at the age of 86, he’s still going strong!
In his long career, he’s written a deep catalogue of essays, most of which have never appeared online before. I’m going to begin featuring them on Daylight Atheism. His posts will appear on this site on Wednesdays. My new posts, including the rest of my Fountainhead reviews, will be on Mondays and Fridays.
As for that other obligation, the one that’s taking my time away from blogging…
OK, I admit it: I’m writing a new book.
I know, I know. I have a full-time day job, an intelligent and energetic toddler who demands as much of my attention as he can get, not to mention this blog filling up my spare time. The last thing I should be doing is taking on another project – let alone a huge one, as this one is.
But some things you can’t help, and this novel leaped up and seized me like nothing I’ve ever written. As soon as I had the idea, I knew I had to give it life.
For those who are interested in reading along, I’m planning to serialize it as I write it, either on this site or another location I’ll announce. Stay tuned for news.
