I came across Vienna Teng while reading up on hopepunk for the article I published today, and I immediately knew I’d found something special.
Most of her five studio albums are heavy on piano ballads, melancholy and contemplative. But her most recent, Aims, is more up-tempo. This album is from 2013, but it’s astonishing how well it fits the tenor of our time. All of it is excellent, but this song is my favorite. Whenever I’m feeling tempted to anger or despair, it’s like medicine:
